Front Sight Student of the Week
Tish GlenchurSurgical Assistant
Video Transcript:
Hi, my name is Tish Glenchur and I'm from Agua Dulce, California. I'm an opthalmic surgical assistant and I'm a stay at home mom for a four and five year old.
I first sought training at Front Sight when I decided to stay home with my children. I live in a very rural area and the response time, if we were to call the police if something were to happen, is about thirty minutes. So my husband, being a fire fighter paramedic, he is gone for twenty four hour shifts, leaving me home with the children. And if anything were to happen I would be solely responsible for taking care of my family.
When I was younger I grew up in a very... in a neighborhood that was full of gang members. And growing up I had to deal with that element day in and day out. I had been jumped, our home was broken into twice. I was on my way home from a party on Reseda Boulevard and I was chased by a gang member. He chased me all the way down to Downey, California. I just wanted to get to a place that I recognized and I could go to the sheriff's department or the CHP. Then he tried to use his vehicle to corner me or run me off the road. That was when I was able to acquire a license plate. Eventually, I was able to lose him but I was so fearful that I didn't even want to get out of the car when I finally did get to the sheriff's station. A gentleman came out and took me to the office to fill out a report.
With all these things that have happened in my past I did seek out to become a marshal artist. I'm a Brown Belt in Jui Jitsu.
