Front Sight Student of the WeekSandra Fico
My name is Sandra Fico. I'm from Coral Springs, Florida. I'm a chiropractic physician.
I've always been in support of the Second Amendment but I was never a gun owner myself. Primarily, because I was scared. However, I had a reality check a couple of years ago when a family friend, nine months pregnant, was murdered. And then shortly after that we had a home invasion in our beautiful Country Club neighborhood. And I realized it was time to get a plan.
Actually, I did some research on the internet. This was a big endeavor for me. It was something which was way out of my comfort zone. I started looking on the internet at various training schools and areas where I could feel competent and this one really stood out. My family thought I was crazy and my husband, very begrudgingly, came along with me the first time to protect me. And I was nervous as could be. In fact, I was terrified.
The instructors were amazingly patient with me. At one point they even had to pull me off the range and privately instruct me because I couldn't even hold the gun without shaking. It wasn't just difficult because I was scared of the guns, it was also the emotional charge of having a friend murdered and wanting to do something about it. As the course progressed I actually surprised myself. I couldn't believe it. Not only did I start actually firing a gun quite competently but I felt safe. I mean there were people right and left of me firing and I felt totally safe. And at the same time, I also realized that I had overcome a great fear and I know how to plan for defense not only for myself but for my family and my loved ones.
Actually, on a local level where I am, it has grown quite a bit. There is aLadies' Night at the local range and I've actually encouraged other women to come with me to fire the weapons competently. I've encouraged them to come here to Front Sight. Several of them have bought memberships. It's developing into a girls' clique type of thing. We are actually trying to get a group to come here together in September.
To the staff, I would like to say thank you for not only your patience but your excellence, your competence and also your friendship. And to Dr. Piazza, I just want to say thank you for the ability and the opportunity to train safely and competently.
To all Americans, I'd like to say this is a very crucial time. Look at what's going on with our constitutional rights. Wake up people, we need to support the Second Amendment. And the other question I want to ask you, is you all think you are so safe. I've experienced through the murder of a deep, darling friend that your life can change in an instant, in just an instant. What kind of plan do you have? If that should happen to you, and you should encounter that kind of danger, and it's all over, don't kid yourselves, it's all over today. What are you going to do about it? It's not just about you, it's about your loved ones and your family. What are you going to do?
