Front Sight Student of the Week
Cathy ParkerCollege Professor
Video Transcript:
Hello, my name is Cathy Parker and I like in Yakima, Washington. I’m a college professor. I have been for twenty years. Previous to that, I have worked in systems programming. I also had a business in insurance and securities. I have raised five children fairly successfully. I am very happy to see that they have all graduated from college and have businesses of their own.
I first came to Front Sight because I wanted to find a place where I could come and get training to learn how to use a gun to protect myself. The reason for that is because many years ago when I was married the first time, my first husband had a gun where he had a negligent misfire. We were living in an apartment where the gun went off, we were upstairs and it went through the floor. It scared me to death because I had never held or seen a gun even. He ran downstairs because somebody could have been killed down there, we could have been killed. He thought it was unloaded, it wasn’t exactly a good introduction to a gun. Later on he threatened me with it, he was going to kill me.
I got divorced, of course. He was not a very good person. I just never had a gun in my life after that. I was scared of them. I raised five children and now they live a long ways from me. I have to drive down a freeway for a very long ways between Yakima and Portland and I want to see my kids. And I’m afraid that if my car broke down I would be at the mercy of whoever would stop to help me out. And I don’t want to feel that way. I don’t want to feel that I have to worry about who might stop.
