In every industry there are those who are pioneers, unsatisfied with the status quo, and driven to exceed all expectations. These leaders develop the techniques and methods necessary to achieve excellence. Their efforts forge the standards that all others in their industry are judged by. In the defensive, tactical, and adventure training industry, one name is the undisputed leader: Front Sight.

Front Sight is looking for a few good men and women who have what it takes. If you can distinguish yourself as a true professional in the defensive, tactical, and adventure training industry, Front Sight challenges you to become part of the most prestigious organization in the industry. Employment opportunities will be extended to those who can demonstrate their skills and professionalism and, more importantly, their alignment with Front Sight’s purpose.

What is Front Sight?

Operational since 1996 and now the industry leader, Front Sight is a 550-acre, world-class firearms training institute, master planned community, and adventure training resort. We are located about one hour west of Las Vegas, Nevada. Front Sight is a facility where professional people come to receive the industry’s finest training in firearms (handgun, shotgun, rifle, submachine gun, precision rifle, and M-16), hunting, rappelling, rock climbing, Martial Arts, Executive Protection, defensive and tactical driving, and Corporate Team Development. Front Sight also offers children and youth programs.

Front Sight embraces several overriding purposes or missions:

  1. To make our students as good as possible during the time that they spend with us.
  2. To instill in our students skills which exceed those of most law enforcement and military personnel.
  3. To positively change the rights of gun owners in America.

Qualifications of Instructor Candidates

Front Sight is expanding our world-class instructional staff to keep pace with our rapidly growing student base. We are looking for instructional staff to fill part-time and full-time positions. The staff at Front Sight is comprised of teachers, educators, and trainers. Qualified candidates will have teaching experience in one or more of the following arenas:

  • Law Enforcement
  • Military
  • Security
  • Private training
  • Private or public education

As a staff member at Front Sight, you will be interacting with professional-level people from all over the world who have paid significant sums of money to receive training at Front Sight. Communication and teaching skills are paramount. Teaching others must be your passion, not merely your job. Front Sight can train you in the technical aspects of our curriculum, but you must provide the desire and attitude. There is no minimum education or experience level required. Front Sight conducts a criminal background check and drug screening on all employee candidates.

  2. A strong desire and ability to impart your knowledge and expertise to the students
  3. Voice, posture, vocabulary, and appearance that secures the student’s respect for your position as their instructor.
  4. High moral and ethical character which leaves you behaving appropriately on and off the range.
  5. A memory that allows you to always remember what it is like to be a student.
  6. The integrity to teach your course exactly as it is outlined in Front Sight’s curriculum with no alteration to the instructional doctrine.

Job Description for Part-Time Staff:

Many of Fronts Sight’s instructors choose to teach on a part-time basis, and maintain other non-conflicting employment. Part-time staff is called to work “as needed”. You do not need to live locally to serve as a part-time staff member.

As a part-time Front Sight Instructor, your primary responsibility will be the safety and training of thousands of Front Sight students every year. Each day you will be mentored and receive additional instructor development to improve your teaching ability and keep your skills current.

Part-time staff is paid an hourly wage which varies based upon your position in the organization. Part-time staff commonly aspire to higher level teaching positions. No employee benefits are extended to part-time staff and all expenses (such as travel, food, lodging, etc,) are your responsibility.

Front Sight challenges its staff to maintain the highest standards of ability and performance. When Front Sight expands its full-time staff, we look first to our existing part-time staff who are proven performers.

Job Description for Full-Time Staff:

Full-time staff members have demonstrated exceptional motivation, ability, alignment with Front Sight’s purposes, and an uncompromising attitude of efficiency and effectiveness. Full-time staff members have several functions in the Front Sight organization. First and foremost, they are teaching on the days we are conducting courses. Secondly, on the days we are not conducting courses; full-time staff is commonly utilized in:

  • Administrative functions (office duties)
  • Curriculum development
  • Maintaining the armory (cleaning and repairing weapons and equipment)
  • Maintenance of the facility (keeping target systems and simulators in top condition)
  • Fabrication (wood and metal target systems, welding)
  • Pro Shop (stocking, ordering, etc.)
  • Construction on the facility (heavy equipment, carpentry, electrical, etc.)
  • Marketing (in-person and telephone activities)

We will assign you tasks which are commensurate with your skills, experience, and desires. Full-time staff must live locally; either at Front Sight, in Pahrump, or in Las Vegas. Relocation expenses are not covered by Front Sight.

Full-time staff is paid a salary which varies depending on their position in the organization. You will be teaching on every day we have scheduled courses, which may include Sundays and some holidays. Most people come into the organization as a part-time staff member and work their way up into a full-time salaried position. Very rarely does Front Sight hire someone new to the organization as a full-time staff member.

Instructor Development Course:

The process to become an Instructor at Front Sight is through our Instructor Development Course. The Instructor Development Course is four days long, held on the dates listed in the course schedule. The Instructor Development Course is essentially a four-day interview and audition with specific performance expectations. We will dismiss participants as the course progresses who do not meet these expectations. The good news is most participants will stay all four days. The Instructor Development Course is structured to make you the best instructor possible in four days. During the four days, you will be lecturing blocks of instruction, demonstrating your technical skills, coaching, and running the class. You will be judged on your abilities in each of those categories as well as your command presence and attitude.

We provide our Instructor Development Course to build Front Sight’s instructional staff. We are not interested in building your skills so that you can use them elsewhere. We will ask you to sign a non-competition agreement stating that you will teach for Front Sight exclusively and for no other private firearms school. Full-time law enforcement and military instructors are welcome to apply. Similarly, part-time NRA, Boy Scouts of America, or CCW instructors are welcome to apply.

Enrolling in the Instructor Development Course:

  • Fax your resume to (866) 834-8563 or e-mail to [email protected].
Do not fax your resume to Front Sight’s headquarters in California.
  • Indicate which Instructor Development course you are interested in (pick only one):
    • Handgun
    • Shotgun
    • Rifle
    • Rope and Rappelling
    • Martial Arts
    • Children and Youth
  • Indicate the course date you are interested in.
  • If we feel you are a good candidate for employment at Front Sight, we will contact you to confirm your enrollment in the Instructor Development Course.

Ongoing Training:
You must thoroughly understand the curriculum of the course you wish to teach. The best way to gain that understanding is to take that course as a student. Therefore, it is Front Sight policy that you must have taken, as a student, the course you wish to instruct. If you successfully complete the four-day Instructor Development Course and have never taken a course at Front Sight, we will provide you the appropriate two-day course free of charge.
