1 Day Precision Rifle Fundamentals

This 1 Day course teaches the knowledge a precision rifle shooter needs to increase the probability of making first round hits on target in a variety of environmental conditions. The class will help students to make the right equipment choices and introduces students to the use of ballistic calculators to come up with the correct firing solution.

    • Mounting the Optics
  • Other Precision Rifle Equipment, to include:

    • Laser Rangefinders
  • How to Clean Your Precision Rifle and Optics
  • Internal Ballistics
  • External Ballistics
    • Caliber Selection
    • Ballistic Coefficient
    • Muzzle Velocity Consistency
    • How Environmental Conditions Affect Firing Solutions
    • Spin Drift, Coriolis Effect, Aerodynamic Jump and More
  • The Art of Reading Wind
  • Engaging Moving Targets
  • Using Your Reticle to Determine Range to Target
  • Uphill or Downhill Effects on the Firing Solution
  • Use of the MilDot Master, Kestrel Weather Meter and Various Ballistic Apps

 

NOTE: This course is taught entirely in the classroom. This course, along with a Distinguished Graduate Certificate in the Rifle Marksmanship or Rifle Marksmanship Skill Builder course is a prerequisite to attend the 4-Day Precision Rifle course where students will practice the fundamental skills learned in the classroom.

 

Required Equipment:

  • Since all training will be done in the classroom, no rifles or ammunition will be allowed inside! No specific equipment is required for this course
  • It is strongly recommended that students have the following:
    • Something to take plenty of notes with (pen and paper, etc.)
    • MilDot Master or similar
    • Ballistics calculator for tablet or smartphone
    • NOTE: Training Kestrels will be provided for use

Age Requirements:

    1. 16 to 17 years old, welcome to take regular firearms courses alone as long as a parent or guardian is onsite; parent or guardian can be enrolled in a different course or on a different range.
    2. Minimum age is 11 if taking the course with a parent or guardian. The parent or guardian MUST be the one working with the child during the entire course, and be responsible for only ONE child.
    3. Children age 10 and under are not allowed.
    4. Unattended minors are NOT allowed on the property. They must be escorted by a parent or guardian at all times or be enrolled in an appropriate course.
